A New Camera for Gadget Boy.

My enginerd has a big, milestone birthday coming up in about two months, and I would LOVE to get him a new digital camera. Those of you who know him have seen him with his tiny little digi around his neck at concerts and swimsuit contests and stuff like that. He has a fairly small Minolta Dimage he wears like a necklace almost when he's out doing stuff. I know he likes it because it's small enough to sneak into places you're not supposed to have a camera. He's had it for almost 5 years now, though, and the picture quality just isn't that great anymore. He keeps saying it's just the battery, and that if he'd replace it, the pictures would look less fuzzy. I'm sure that's true, but it's only a 2 megapixel camera! It's not going to get TOO much better, y'know?

I love drooling over these Nikon cameras. Our good friend and photographer Courtney uses a big, badass Nikon and the pictures she's taken of our kids with it are just amazing. Now that's about ten times more camera than Pauly needs, but maybe we could find a happy medium somewhere!

Do you have a camera you love? Give me some suggestions!

I have a homebuilding blog of my own so I like for my camera to be unobtrusive. I did a LOT of research on cNet and dpreview.com, so much research that my wife was about to kill me. Anyway, I don't know if I got THE best small camera but it's great and I love it. It's the 6 mpixel subcompact Panasonic FX-9. Takes great (30 fps) movies, too. I've had it for about a year and a half and I have no regrets except to say that since it is a subcompact, the flash is only meant for 2'-10' and that's it. Otherwise, it takes nice macro photos and otherwise. Good luck in your search.
