Headboard Envy

Did you see my pretty new comforter I posted pictures of the other day? If not, scroll down a bit. And I mentioned that I want to make a headboard? I'm starting to obsess about it now! I found some links online, and I think I want to do a combination of this idea and this one too. And here's a really simple tutorial. Ooooh, I'm so excited.

Landscaping Boulders

Yesterday, Paul's dad asked him where he could get the hookup for big landscaping boulders. I guess he thought Paul would know, since a lot of his projects involved giant rocks! Paul said he didn't know where the contractors went to find those big rocks, and mentioned how hard they are to acquire and place - since they weigh a bazillion pounds, you actually need heavy equipment to bring them in and place them. So, what if you decide you don't like it right there? Like, that turns out to be the perfect spot for a hot tub or something? Ha!

I guess more and more people are turning to fake rocks for those very reasons. I was checking out some of the selection on the Artificial Rocks Factory site, and they have some pretty decent looking fake rocks! We used to have a friend who had an outdoor speaker inside a fake rock, and it looked ridiculously cheesy. It looked like something from the original Star Trek set, from one of their expeditions to another planet! I sort of figured all fake rocks look, well, FAKE, but the newest generation of artificial boulders is pretty high quality. Check it out:

They take molds from actual boulders, which is why they look more realistic, I'm sure. And they aren't made out of fiberglass or polyurethane, they're constructed from construction-grade cast stone. So they probably look and feel more realistic, too. I'm not sure if you could sit on one for your senior portrait or anything, though!

LOOK at all that blank space!

New comforter., originally uploaded by lalagirl.

Guess what we just got? A "grown up" bed set. A comforter that we didn't buy at Wal-Mart; one that says dry clean only on the tag. Isn't it pretty? It's from Penney's - my mom used her discount and scored us a super deal!

But! Now, more than ever, I am COMPLETELY HATING the fact that we have no headboard!!

This is going to be my new project. Project Headboard. I'm going to peruse the net and find some ideas, and then start buildin'!

Paul and Steve at Sturgis

2007 08 07 Pic (1), originally uploaded by lalagirl.

I keep meaning to post a whole blog entry about Paul's week up at Sturgis, and I keep forgetting. I have a whole set of pictures on Flickr if you want to check them out - they're right here.

Anyway, they had a super time! Paul rode the whole way up there, along with his buddies Steve and Ed, and alongside some of Paul's old high school friends, too. His dad met them up there with the motorhome, bike trailer, and his own bike, so they did all kinds of touristy stuff along with the obligatory biker stuff.

They went to Mount Rushmore and Devil's Tower, and they went on some great rides every day. The campground they stayed at had a pool and a hot tub, and they were sleeping in air conditioned comfort, so it sounds almost cushy, huh?

Paul reported that the speakers and amp he installed on his bike worked great - except his Palm Pilot, which he was using as a music source, SUCKED. It kept shutting itself off from the vibration of the bike, even when he had it inside his vest. Luckily, he took a backup radio, so he had something to listen to.

And he brought us all back shirts! Yay!

Mailboxes

I went to a meeting the other night for my twin club, which was held at someone's house about ten billion miles away from me. So, it was kind of a long drive. On the way there, I had to go through a bunch of different neighborhoods, and they ranged from old and run down to pretty new and ritzy. And you know what I noticed in the newer areas? They don't have the bank of mailboxes at the curb, apartment style, like we do. I hate looking at all those commercial mailboxes scattered throughout the neighborhood, and I REALLY hate having to drive somewhere to get my mail!

I wonder why the trend for apartment style residential mailboxes in newer areas is starting to go away? Or do I just live in the hood and I don't realize it? Ha! I'm so envious of those whose mailboxes are right at the end of their driveway. Obviously, I appreciate the security of the big, locked mailbox - but I don't think they put them out there for MY benefit. I think the mail carriers just don't want to have to visit every single house! They'd much rather just stop once every few blocks, I'm sure.

And speaking of mailboxes and letter carriers and the mail and all of that stuff - for about a week or so, I kept noticing this bright fluorescent pink SOMETHING dripping inside my mailbox! I have no idea what that's all about. Did somebody tag our box with graffiti, and the city came by with a power washer and washed it off? And now what's left of it is running into our mailboxes? If so, that sucks! Tag the back of the box next time, Holmes! I had to get the baby wipes out of the van and clean the whole inside of my mailbox, and then MY WHOLE FOREARM too. Yuck!

Tonight is the Night!

Another Sturgis week down! I made it! Paul's coming home tonight, after being gone for five days. Yay! I'm not sure whether I'm more excited about squeezing him or jumping in the van and getting out of here, to spend time alone anywhere! I think my Sunday's going to include a trip to Starbucks all by myself! Yippee!

The week has gone by pretty fast! I really miss him, though. He's such a great husband. I mean, I can bitch about him like crazy, too! He's completely anal about things, he's not the best at being sensitive in certain situations, and he expects way more out of people than is necessary or even appropriate, which leads him to disappointment A LOT. I think we were made for each other, though. I'm so mellow and easygoing and optimistic, I think it balances him out nicely. And I can be a big, lazy SLOB, who is completely disorganized, so his "encouragement" really helps me to keep a handle on my life, which is BIG. Having all these children requires a certain amount of discipline and organization, which is not something I come by naturally even a little bit. It's great that we have each other.

And, it doesn't hurt things even a little bit that he's SO COMPLETELY HOT. Twelve more hours until he's here!

Off to Sturgis!

...And they're off., originally uploaded by lalagirl.

Paul got up very early today to head out of here - much earlier than we're used to getting up! He came into bed and kissed me goodbye before he left, and then since I was awake anyway, I just lay there in bed for a little bit, listening to him putter around downstairs until it was quiet.

And then I felt so bad that I didn't go down and see him off, since I was awake anyway. I started feeling downright sad about him being gone! So I sent him a text, saying, "I miss you already!" A few minutes later, he was back! I thought he turned all the way around and came back to give me another kiss, but no. Haha! Turns out they hadn't even left yet, because they were waiting for one of the guys to show up and he was running late.

So, I put on my shoes and went out in my jammies and waved goodbye as they rumbled out of the neighborhood. Bye bye, bikers!

P.S. Don't worry, I won't be alone with all these kids!! I have people staying with me, and we have cop neighbors who are looking out for us too. It's all good!
